Ecologist - Rayleigh, Essex

Railscape are looking for an experienced Ecologist to work in conjunction with our railway contracts across the country. Based in Rayleigh, Essex the job role will be both office and site based so a driving license is essential. The successful candidate ideally holds relevant university degrees, holds at least three years of professional work experience and is experienced in undertaking a range of standard protected species survey work. The successful candidate will support our Railway Compliance Team in all audit processes including ISO 14001 Environmental Management.

Minimum Requirements:

• Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) membership at Associate Level or higher.
• Experience in undertaking Phase 1 habitat surveys of a broad range of different sites, including larger and more complex sites.
• Has a good level of botanical identification skill and knowledge of broad habitat types.
• Able to produce ecological appraisal reports to a high standard in line with CIEEM guidance, with well-considered recommendations.
• Has a good understanding of current wildlife legislation and policies.
• Maintains a high standard of professional conduct at all times and has good communication and organisational skills.
• Has received all essential occupational health and safety training, including that required by law and any additional training in line with company policies.

Advanced Requirements:

• High level of botanical identification skill, Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) Level 4 or above, and experience in undertaking detailed botanical surveys and National Vegetation Classification (NVC) surveys.
• Holds Natural England protected species survey licences
• Experience in working on railway sites and working on tracksides.
• Has completed a relevant Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) course.
• Is able to complete detailed risk assessments and method statements for specific works and scenarios.
• Holds a Personal Track Safety (PTS) card (preferred, not crucial)

Essential Requirements:

• Full UK Driving License
• Proficient in all Microsoft application(s) including Excel and Word
